We've all heard the horrible stories and news reports about the domestic violence situation in Springfield. Have you heard this shocking news? Our community has domestic violence rates three times higher than anywhere else in the state, including St. Louis and Kansas City! That is a serious "black eye".
In 2014 Springfield Police responded to over 2700 domestic assaults. Many times people will ask, "why don't they just leave?" Here's the sad truth: Last year 2,326 women and children did try to leave but they had no where to go. Harmony House, Springfield's only domestic violence shelter didn't have room and were forced to turn them away. I'm pretty sure you will agree that is totally unacceptable. We cannot let these numbers continue to rise!
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. iCare about this community and the Fun & Fit Ladies of Fusion Fitness are committed to take a stand and show it! We are participating in Harmony House's event called "iCare". We will join hundreds of businesses, individuals, and professionals on October 23rd by wearing a symbolic "black eye" sticker and distributing information about Harmony House and domestic violence.
Fusion Fitness will also help support Harmony House with Fun, Fitness, and Funds for Harmony House. This will be a day full of workouts, food, door prizes, and fun! Please join us on Saturday, October 10th from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM and help us remove this "black eye" from our community! If you are unable to attend but would like to donate please go here: Funds for Harmony House
iCare and know you care as well! Let's make a difference together!
